This is a quick intro into my top 5 places to visit in Italy;

(I'll go into more information in my subsequent coming blogs)

1. The Amalfi Coast & Sorrento

2. Rome

3. Cinque Terre

4. Venice

5. Naples

The Amalfi Coast & Sorrento

The Amalfi Coast is without a doubt one of the most stunning places you will ever visit, with so many twists & turns, hills and drops, it’s breathtaking at every angle.

The Amalfi Coast is a seasonal affair. It opens for business from late April to October, with many hotels, restaurants and public transport options winding down significantly from November.

Summer is the most popular time to visit, but this see's prices soar and the traffic crawl along the iconic coastal roads. If you are keen to get out and explore, spring and late summer are pr the best time, when the temperatures are cooler, journey times halve and the main resorts are a little less hectic.

We travelled here in June as we were there for a friends wedding. We stayed a few nights in Sorrento and then travelled along the coast, we stayed in Praiano & Ravello. Ravello is one of my absolute favourites places to stay, a lot of people rave about Positano which is really stunning but also a lot busier!

Rome

I’ve been to Rome about 5 times and each time was a different experience; a girly getaway, layovers as cabin crew, a romantic stay with my husband & a hen do!

Rome is 'the' destination when it comes to food, romance, history, and culture. This city has so much to offer and never disappoints. Whether it's shopping, eating or sightseeing you are after, I dare you not to fall in love with it's endless beauty.

Some of the best attractions to visit in Rome: (see more info in related posts)

  • Pantheon
  • Colosseum
  • Roman Forum
  • Palatine Hill
  • Piazza Navona
  • Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore
  • Trevi Fountain
  • Galleria Borghese
  • Trastevere
  • The Vatican

Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre means ‘five towns’. I had the pleasure of visiting here for friends wedding, it was only 4 days unfortunately but wow, it’s such a stunning place, I would definitely recommend a visit here and can't wait to go back one day!

There are a few options for airports to travel from, I flew from the UK at the time into Pisa and took the train to Vernazza, where we were staying but you can easily hop along the coast to the other towns too.

Venice

The city of love, romance and one of the most peaceful cities in Europe will appeal to you right from the first sight by beautiful islands, canals, ancient bridges and statues. It has ancient and poetic architectures such as St. Marco’s square and cathedral, Dodge’s Palace and the legendary Rialto bridge.

Unfortunately I travelled here as cabin crew on a layover so it wasn't a romantic trip but I still loved every minute none the less.

One of the most memorable experiences in Venice is to sail on the canals by Gondola boat.

And don't miss out on taking a trip over to the art and glass factories on Murano island. It’s also a great place to stop and have lunch and a little less busier than the main tourist areas on Venice Island.

Naples

We took the ferry from Amalfi to Naples for a day trip, the ferry takes just over an hour.

We weren't entirely sure what there was to see and do in Naples as it wasn’t really part of our planned itinerary so we took the hop on hop off bus which was a great way to see the city in such a short time.

Like most of the cities in Italy, Naples is a city known for food, you have to try the traditional Neapolitan pizza from Sorbillo it‘s amazing, although it’s usually a really busy place but you can find heaps of great places to eat - the traditional way to eat neapolitan pizza is to fold it in half and eat on the go as you stroll along the cobblestone streets.
